Dave Aftandilian Unsettling and disorienting, as dark ambient should be. Gives a feeling of vast, shadowy spaces, and how small and vulnerable we humans are within them. Our soul-crushing puniness in the face of much more powerful forces comes through especially strongly in the Lovecraftian epic “Monster.” Each track is diverse enough to reward sustained attention, and the whole album works together well to craft a pleasantly oppressive, claustrophobic atmosphere. Favorite track: a monster of vaguely anthropoid outline.

darkcasey An uneasy collection of dark ambient soundscapes that fuel the paranoia that something is coming, or maybe, has already arrived. A gritty, fizzing, ominous album, and great fun to listen to. Favorite track: to a flame.

about

“interlopers” is a categorically dark and dystopian ambient album, Sager’s fifth release in the genre. It addresses more deeply the grittier themes that have incrementally featured in each of his previous efforts. Drawing on his formative years as a devout metal, industrial, and techno fan, and his love for H.P. Lovecraft and apocalyptic fiction, Sager knew at the outset of the album’s creation that he wanted to explore those influences. In many ways, “interlopers” represents a return to the aesthetic preference that helped define his early life. The result is an album that is staunchly tense and unsettled, captivating the listener in a musical language beset by the unknown.
