shadows gathering against builds on the elements of popular dark-ambient music in an additive fashion. There is an unceasing drone clearly promoted to the focus of the piece at the forefront, but this hour-long work is augmented by found sounds and artifacts of a bygone technical culture: tapes hissing and flapping in their silence, fuzz and feedback of recording devices, imagined machinations from some alternate time screeching out, and the heavy use of distortion to bend almost otherwise recognized noises. The effect of this process is a track that keeps the listener emotionally invested in the music by occupying the full space, including the periphery, of this uneasy soundscape, and to reward listeners who are attuned to the way the world Josh Sager builds shifts over time.
